Plenitude’s Retail Development In Gurney Walk To Enhance Penang’s Gurney Drive

Penang’s famous Gurney Drive will have a new landmark by October 2021, following the opening of Gurney Walk with its retail component already securing over 30% tenant occupancy.
The project by Plenitude Berhad is poised to be an invigorating social and cultural hub that will bring together the Penang community and the expanding population in the vicinity including tourists, locals and expatriates.
Gurney Walk will serve as a unique space and platform for the community while blending the arts, culture, artisanal goods and gastronomic offerings under one roof.
“Gurney Walk is designed to cater to consumers with contemporary taste. Careful consideration and planning have gone into the use of the space to strike a balance between design and functionality. It is a place where people can break away from the mundane and come together to be inspired or to experience something truly refreshing,” says Tan Seng Chye, Group CEO of Plenitude Berhad.
With 60,000 sq ft of leasable space, Gurney Walk will feature a sea-facing, aesthetically pleasing design which accentuates human interaction with nature while exuding an artisanal vibe and a minimalist interior.
The ground floor of Gurney Walk will showcase a mix of Food & Beverage (F&B) plus dining outlets where patrons can wine, dine and razzmatazz with friends and family. Also included are a selection of convenience stores and a specialty wine and cheese mart whose first floor will showcase its retail component.
The second floor will feature a home furnishing store, spas, a cooking school and children’s edutainment centre.
Already, over 30% of the net leasable areas within Gurney Walk have been taken up. “We have received positive responses from prospective tenants who are confident of the immense potential presented by Gurney Walk. The retail space in Gurney Walk has been carefully curated to ensure a fresh and interesting trade mix. The process will be selective, in order to ensure quality with the type of trades and concepts that have been put together for Gurney Walk,” adds Tan.
Gurney Walk will also feature art exhibitions and workshops, amidst other planned offerings and community-centric events.
Gurney Walk is situated in the heart of Gurney Drive, a thriving stretch in the Pearl of the Orient, synonymous with street food and hawker centres; accommodating hotels, condominiums and office buildings. Gurney Drive also serves as a strategic pit stop between Penang International Airport and the famous Batu Ferringhi beach, and is adjacent to affluent suburbs of Pulau Tikus and Tanjung Bungah.
Gurney Walk will also be directly connected to the Ascott Gurney Penang which is undergoing renovation and refurbishment, and is also slated to open in the third quarter of 2021.
