Located very close to the iconic Saigon Opera House is an American diner that is as authentic as the real thing in the States, so say many of its loyal customers. Curious, I made a beeline to Eddie’s New York Deli & Diner. It happened to be the day after Thanksgiving so there was a special menu on offer. However, I decided to try its most popular order – the specialty beef burger and milk shake.
Verdict: The burger was right up there among the best fast food burgers; however the milkshake was quite ordinary. Still, I could understand why Americans in particular love the restaurant. The food, décor and music remind them of home. It doesn’t matter that all the staff are Vietnamese.
Owner Brad Segal recalls how he grew up eating comfort food like burgers, fries and milkshakes, and even Chinese food in Minnesota, his hometown. He wanted to recreate the same kind of ambiance in Ho Chi Minh City hence the diner’s concept.
